How To Register

An application for registration of an animal in the American Maine-Anjou Association should be made on the standard forms. Explanations and abbreviations for the boxes appear on the bottom of the registration application & report form. Up to eight animals may be applied for on one form. Please do not use one form per animal. Identification procedures are the same as for all cattle.

1. The calf must be 1/4 Maine-Anjou or greater as a result of either parent. For steers, the calf must be the offspring of a 1/2 or greater REGISTERED Maine-Anjou bull. Or the calf may be any combination of a registered female and a 1/2 or greater registered Maine-Anjou bull.

The calf must have a known birth date.

   
3. If the dam is unregistered, you must submit some sort of ID for the cow (tattoo, ear tag, etc.) Also include dam’s % of other breeds and breed codes.
   
4. The calf must be permanently identified with a unique tattoo as outlined. The identification must contain three parts, as explained on the “Animal Identification” form.
   

Herd Prefix
These are combinations of 2, 3 or 4 letters, assigned by the AMAA which identifies the breeder for registration of the animal.  The herd prefix can not begin or end with I, O or Q.

Number:
A number, which is unique to this steer in the herd in which he was raised.

Year Letter:
A letter, which identifies the year the calf was born:

2001 = L

2006 = S

2011 = Y

2002 = M

2007 = T

2012 = Z

2003 = N

2008 = U

2013 = A

2004 = P

2009 = W

2014 = B

2005 = R

2010 = X

2015 = C

The breeder on the registration form must sign at the bottom of the application for registration.

 For the fees to register and transfer heifers and bulls, please see the self billing worksheet. To register and transfer a steer, if done at the same time is $15.

   
7. Keep the carbon copy of the application forms for your reference.

Please allow two weeks for the turn-around on the registration, unless a rush is requested.

Work, which is complete and paid for can usually be completed, and returned to you within two weeks.
IF THE WORK IS NEEDED SOONER, A $25 RUSH FEE PER EIGHT ANIMALS MUST BE INCLUDED FOR PRIORITY HANDLING.  All faxed work is considered a RUSH and will be charged a RUSH FEE!!!
